Highway Department Update for June 7th

Administration:

  • Our department is working with the contractors regarding the roadwork that is taken place on South Main Street and Russell Street concerning some of the work that is ongoing.
  • Signed off on an easement for some culvert work that needs to be completed on Texas Hill Road.
  • We have been working with several residential driveway permits and concerns.
  • Our department is gathering sweeper quotes from several venders in the area. This is for road sweeping services for the town.
  • Our department has a new Safety Officer, Todd Valyou. He attended his first meeting on June 5th.
  • Finalized and waiting on a date for the tree removal on New Hebron and Old Hebron Road.
  • Scheduled maintenance requests and reviewed and scheduled basin and culvert cleaning.
  • Obtained supplies for the projects that are set for working on Old Hebron Road.
  • We are in the process of hiring a Mechanic. This is a 40 hours per week, with more hours possible when there are storms that may require extra cleanup. A CDL is required. Week of June 10, 2024, Administrative Projects:

  • Working with contractors regarding Russell and South Main Street, meeting on Monday
  • Working with Mike Vignale on road engineering projects-ongoing
  • Complete Catch Basin contracts and Sweeping contracts
  • CPR and AED certification with the Fire Department
  • Working on a list of encumbrance requests for FY 2025-26
  • Preparations are developing for next year’s budget

Week of June 3rd, 2024, Crew Duties:

  • 6/3 – finish the roadside ditch work, one of the staff went to Concord to register the new Dodge Ram truck.
  • 6/4 – line striping crosswalks on Highland Street
  • 6/5 – graded Cummings Hill Road, picked up hydraulics in Littleton for the repair on the John Deere loader. Picked up catch basin parts for upcoming repairs, ordered undercoat gun for undercoating and rust proofing the vehicles. Completed a mileage tracking program for all oil changes for all heavy equipment and vehicles.
  • 6/6 – shop clean up and mechanical equipment work, assessed all culverts and basins for upcoming work, this week. Checked and cleaned all the catch basins, due to upcoming rainy weather. Purchased laser for installing pipes, catch basins and setting the grades.

Week of June 10, 2024, Crew Duties: (schedule may change due to weather or other emergent events)

  • 6/10 – Catch basin cleaning and repairs
  • 6/11 – Catch basin cleaning and repairs
  • 6/12 – Catch basin cleaning and repairs
  • 6/13 – Shop and vehicle maintenance

Maintenance:

  • No mechanic on duty

Building:

  • Installation of newly approved air cleaning system, coming soon.

Training:

  • Upcoming classes are being scheduled with Primex

Paving Projects:

  • Upcoming work on New Hebron Road

Upcoming Events:

  • The Highway Department will be participating with other departments with the ‘Touch a Truck’ event on Saturday, June 15th, 2024, from 12pm – 3pm.
